How We Got Our Name

We fast forward to mom and dad, Okie and Hermon Williamson getting married and having us five children.  Momma (Okie) was sick a lot and daddy, (Herman) was farming and working outside the home.  With all this, Poppa George and Lillian stepped in to care for us most of the time till about the time Raymond (not pictured) was born.  Hermon could grow watermelons this side of the Mississippi according to Kent.  Now…I (later in the story) have to say my grandpa, Ross Gwynn, grew the best watermelons this side of the Mississippi.  Any suggestions on how to end this family drama?  Friendly now!  They also loved to go to the Farmers Market in Greensboro.  Are you beginning to see any family resemblance here?

GEH Farms came about in the early 2000’s and was named after Poppa George as a memorial.  He lost his life on the farm from a tractor roll over accident, hence George Ervin Hills.

The farm owners were now Kent and Deborah (the I in up above) Williamson.  We also worked outside the home and just sort of farmed on the side.

Now GEH Farms started mainly with raising cows as tobacco had long been gone from the farm.  Herman and Okie gave up that crop, it wasn’t financially lucrative for the small farmer any more.  GEH Farms started out mainly with us raising cows on the side.

Fast forward to later and the farm had blossomed by the grace of God to now grown seasonal vegetables through the high tunnel (assistance from USDA Equip Program), fruit, eggs and proteins.
